Santa Pola is a genuine, working fishing port on the Costa Blanca, just 20 minutes from Alicante Airport. The town’s daily fish auction at the Lonja is still the heartbeat of the community, and the seafood restaurants lining the harbour serve catches that were swimming in the Mediterranean just hours earlier.
The town sits between two remarkable natural features: the Santa Pola Salt Lakes nature reserve — home to flamingos year-round — and the Sierra de Santa Pola cliffs with hidden rocky coves offering excellent snorkelling.
Santa Pola’s greatest claim to fame is its ferry connection to Tabarca Island, Spain’s smallest permanently inhabited island. Just 30 minutes by boat, Tabarca is a car-free paradise with crystal-clear waters and a marine reserve.
