Why Holiday in Estepona?
Estepona has undergone a remarkable transformation into one of the Costa del Sol's most charming towns. Its Old Town is now a tapestry of flower-lined streets, murals, orchid gardens and hidden plazas, earning it the nickname "Garden of the Costa del Sol." The long beachfront and traditional fishing port complete a genuinely lovely package.
Holiday rentals include renovated Old Town apartments, modern beachfront complexes along the New Golden Mile, and spacious villas with pools in El Paraíso and surrounding hillside areas. Estepona offers the rare combination of a picture-perfect Spanish town with all the beach infrastructure of a modern resort.

Your Holiday Guide to Estepona
Beaches
Playa del Cristo
A sheltered sandy cove on the east side of the port, with calm, shallow water. Often called the best family beach on the Costa del Sol for its gentle gradient and Blue Flag cleanliness.
Playa de La Rada
The main town beach stretching over 2 km with a wide promenade, chiringuitos and all amenities. A classic Spanish beach holiday scene with palm trees and paseo strolling.
Playa del Padrón
A quieter beach east of town along the New Golden Mile, backed by new apartment developments. Sandy, spacious and with several upscale beach clubs.
Dining
Estepona’s Old Town is a culinary delight — tapas bars in flower-lined streets, portside fish restaurants and creative kitchens in restored townhouses. The covered market has a tapas counter section that’s excellent for breakfast. The Sunday market sells local cheese, honey and olive oil. The New Golden Mile has upscale beach club restaurants.
Activities & Attractions

Orchid House (Orquidario) — a stunning botanical garden with over 5,000 orchid species in a modern glass building
Selwo Aventura safari park — an African-themed wildlife park with giraffes, elephants and zip lines
Castle ruins and clock tower — the old fortress and Torre del Reloj are the heart of the historic centre
Estepona port and fish market — a working fishing port where daily auctions set the tone for the town’s restaurant scene
Getting Around
Estepona’s Old Town and main beach are easily walkable. The New Golden Mile stretches east towards San Pedro and requires a car or bus. Buses connect to Marbella (30 min) and Málaga (1 hr). A car is useful for Selwo park and day trips.
Family Tip
Playa del Cristo is the standout — shallow, sheltered, lifeguarded and with a playground. Selwo safari park is a full-day family adventure. The mural route through the Old Town works as an open-air treasure hunt for children.
Best Time to Visit
Year-round. Summer for beaches, spring and autumn for walking the mural route in comfort. Estepona’s fair in early July is one of the biggest on the western Costa del Sol, with casetas, horses and flamenco.

About Estepona
Estepona has undergone one of the most remarkable transformations on the Costa del Sol. Once overlooked in favour of neighbouring Marbella, the town has reinvented itself as the “Garden of the Costa del Sol” — its historic centre now bursting with flower-lined streets, over 50 large-scale murals, and a beautifully restored old quarter that rivals any town in Andalusia.
The town’s 21km coastline features a mix of sandy beaches and rocky coves, far less crowded than Marbella’s. The harbour has been developed into an attractive marina with restaurants and shops, while the seafront promenade stretches for kilometres. The Orchidarium — a stunning glass-domed orchid house in the town centre — is unique on the Costa del Sol.
Estepona maintains a genuine Spanish character that sets it apart from more international resort towns. The central market, the Sunday flea market, the old town tapas bars, and the traditional fiestas all reflect a town that has embraced tourism while preserving its Andalusian soul.
