Why Holiday in Manilva?
Manilva occupies the western tip of the Costa del Sol before the coast turns towards Cádiz and the Strait of Gibraltar. The area centres around the charming Puerto de la Duquesa marina, lined with restaurants and bars, while the hillside village of Manilva itself is famous for its moscatel wine harvest festival in September.
Holiday rentals are excellent value compared with nearby Estepona and Marbella: waterfront apartments overlooking the marina, townhouses in Sabinillas with sea views, and golf villas near Duquesa Golf. The area suits sun-seekers who want an authentic, unhurried corner of the coast at a fraction of Marbella prices.

Beaches
Playa de la Duquesa
A sandy beach beside the Puerto de la Duquesa marina, with a promenade, chiringuitos and a laid-back atmosphere. The marina backdrop makes it one of the prettiest beach settings on the western Costa del Sol.
Playa de Sabinillas
A long, wide sandy beach in the small town of Sabinillas, with a traditional Spanish promenade and seafood restaurants. Less touristy and great value.
Playa Ancha
A quiet natural beach between Sabinillas and the Guadalmansa river. Rocky sections for snorkelling and sandy stretches for sunbathing, rarely crowded.
Dining
Puerto de la Duquesa’s marina is lined with restaurants — fish, tapas, Italian and Indian options all with waterfront terraces. Sabinillas has traditional Spanish bars along the seafront serving fried fish and cold beer at local prices. The weekly market in Sabinillas (Tuesday) sells local produce, cheese and cured meats from the surrounding countryside.

Duquesa Golf — a scenic 18-hole course with views to Gibraltar and the Rif Mountains of Morocco
Sabinillas promenade walk — a pleasant 3 km seaside stroll between Sabinillas and Duquesa

Getting Around
A car is useful as Manilva’s towns (Sabinillas, Duquesa, Manilva village) are spread out. The coastal strip is walkable between Sabinillas and Duquesa. Buses run to Estepona and Málaga, but infrequently. Gibraltar and Ronda are easy day-trip drives.
Family Tip
The marina is safe for evening walks with children, and the beach at Duquesa has calm waters. The Roman museum in the castle is small but fascinating for history-loving kids. Ice cream shops along the marina are a nightly ritual.
Best Time to Visit
Year-round. Summer is beach season but less crowded than Marbella. September is the Moscatel wine festival in Manilva village — free grape-treading and wine-tasting. Spring is perfect for golf and the wildflower-covered hills behind the town.

About Manilva
Manilva is the westernmost municipality on the Costa del Sol, sitting at the boundary with the Campo de Gibraltar region. The area encompasses the charming inland village of Manilva, the beachside community of Sabinillas, and the modern marina development at Puerto de la Duquesa — three distinct zones each with their own character.
The area is famous for its Moscatel wine production — Manilva’s sweet wine has been made from the local Moscatel de Alejandría grape for centuries. The annual vendimia (grape harvest) festival in September is one of the most joyful celebrations on the coast, with free-flowing wine and traditional grape-treading.
Puerto de la Duquesa is a well-maintained marina with restaurants, bars, and shops overlooking the yacht moorings. The beaches of Sabinillas and Duquesa are less developed than those further east, offering a more relaxed experience. On clear days, the views from the coast stretch across the Strait of Gibraltar to the Rif Mountains of Morocco.
