Why Holiday in Jávea?

Jávea is a three-in-one destination: a medieval old town with stone-built charm, a working port with outstanding seafood restaurants, and the sparkling Arenal beach — a crescent of golden sand backed by cafes and palm trees. Surrounded by the Montgó massif and dramatic cape scenery, the landscapes here are among the most beautiful on the coast.

Holiday homes in Jávea tend to sit a notch above average — expect stylish villas with infinity pools in the Montgó foothills, sea-view apartments near the Arenal, and traditional fincas tucked into the countryside. The area is hugely popular with British, Dutch and German families who return year after year.

Beaches

Platja de l’Arenal

A perfect crescent of golden sand with palm trees, Blue Flag waters and a lively promenade of cafes and restaurants. The most popular and family-friendly beach in Jávea.

Cala Granadella

Consistently rated one of Spain’s best beaches — a turquoise cove surrounded by pine-clad cliffs. Outstanding snorkelling, though arrive early in summer as parking fills fast.

Cala Portitxol

A rocky cove with startlingly clear water, reached by a path from the Cap de Sant Antoni area. Bring water shoes and snorkel gear for some of the best underwater visibility on the coast.

Dining

Jávea’s port has outstanding seafood restaurants — try arroz del señoret (shellfish rice) at harbourside tables. The Arenal has beach-casual dining, and the old town has tapas bars in medieval stone buildings. For a splurge, several restaurants in the Montgó foothills combine fine dining with panoramic terrace views.

Activities & Attractions

Montgó Natural Park — hike to the summit or take the easier Cova de l’Aigua trail through Mediterranean woodland

Kayaking to sea caves — guided tours paddle from the Arenal to hidden coves and the Cova Tallada

Cap de la Nao viewpoint — dramatic cliffside lookout with views to Ibiza on clear days; lighthouse walk at sunset

Snorkelling at Granadella — underwater posidonia meadows teeming with fish, octopus and moray eels

Windmill route (Molins de la Plana) — a gentle hike past restored 14th-century windmills above the old town

Getting Around

Jávea is spread across three distinct areas — old town, port, Arenal — so a car is strongly recommended. Distances between areas are 2–3 km, manageable by bicycle on flat roads. Local bus service exists but is infrequent. Most villa rentals include parking.

Family Tip

The Arenal is one of the safest family beaches on the coast — calm, shallow water with lifeguards all summer. Older children will love kayaking to sea caves. The Wednesday market in the old town has traditional sweets and toys.

Best Time to Visit

May to October for beach and water activities. Granadella is most enjoyable in June or September, avoiding peak-summer crowds. Spring brings wildflowers to Montgó (April is spectacular). Winters are mild, with year-round hiking.

About Javea

Jávea (Xàbia in Valencian) is widely considered the jewel of the Costa Blanca’s northern coast. Sheltered by the imposing Montgó mountain, Jávea enjoys a unique microclimate officially recognized by the World Health Organization as one of the healthiest in the world.

The town is split into three distinct zones. The historic old town (El Pueblo) centres around a fortified 14th-century Gothic church. The port area (El Puerto) is the gastronomic heart with waterfront fish restaurants. The Arenal beach zone is the main resort area with golden sand and a palm-lined promenade.

Jávea has long been popular with British and German expats, offering excellent international amenities without sacrificing authentic Spanish character. The town has avoided high-rise construction, maintaining a tasteful, low-key elegance.
