Beachfront Rentals in Calpe

Why Beachfront in Calpe?

Calpe is defined by the Penon de Ifach — a 332-metre limestone rock that juts straight out of the sea and dominates every view. It is a natural park, home to nesting colonies of Eleonora's falcons, and the most recognisable landmark on the Costa Blanca. A beachfront rental in Calpe means waking up with this extraordinary geological feature outside your window, whether you are on Arenal-Bol to the south or La Fossa to the north.

The town itself retains a working-harbour character that many resort towns have lost. Fishing boats still unload at the port every afternoon, and the restaurants along the quayside serve what came off the boats that morning. Arroz a banda — a rice dish cooked in fish stock, originally a fishermen's meal — was effectively invented here, and Calpe remains the best place on the coast to eat it.

Beachfront living in Calpe combines that authentic fishing-town atmosphere with proper resort infrastructure. The beaches have Blue Flag status, the promenades are well-maintained, and there is a good selection of supermarkets, pharmacies, and services within walking distance of the seafront. It is less hectic than Benidorm but more characterful than a purpose-built urbanisation.

Calpe's Beachfront Options

Playa del Arenal-Bol — The Main Beach

Arenal-Bol is Calpe's flagship beach — a wide, kilometre-long crescent of golden sand curving south from the base of the Penon de Ifach. The beach has Blue Flag status, lifeguards in season, sun-bed hire, volleyball courts, and several chiringuitos. The promenade running behind it is lined with restaurants, ice cream parlours, and shops. The most sought-after beachfront apartments in Calpe sit along the Avenida de los Ejercitos Espanoles, which runs parallel to the beach. From upper floors, the views take in the full sweep of the bay with the Penon rising on the left.

Playa de La Fossa (Cala del Raco) — The Calm Side

On the north side of the Penon, La Fossa is a slightly smaller, more sheltered beach. The water is exceptionally calm — the rock acts as a natural breakwater — and the sand is fine and white. The area is more residential than Arenal-Bol, with fewer restaurants but a quieter atmosphere. Families with young children often prefer La Fossa for the gentle water and the more relaxed environment. Beachfront properties here are mainly low-rise apartment complexes with communal pools and gardens.

Cantal Roig — The Harbour Cove

Tucked against the base of the Penon next to the fishing harbour, Cantal Roig is Calpe's smallest and most characterful beach. It is a tiny crescent of sand barely 100 metres long, fringed by the harbour wall and the rock. The water is clear and sheltered, and the fishing boats bobbing nearby add atmosphere. After a swim, you can walk straight to the harbour restaurants for lunch. There are fewer beachfront rental options directly on Cantal Roig, but properties on the adjacent streets are within a minute's walk.

Seafood Dining by the Beach

🐟

Fresh-off-the-Boat Seafood

Calpe's fishing harbour is still active, with boats landing catches of red mullet, prawns, sea bream, and octopus each afternoon. The fish auction (lonja) happens at the port, and the restaurants along the harbour buy directly from the boats. This short supply chain means the seafood in Calpe is genuinely fresh in a way that chain-supplied restaurants elsewhere cannot match.

🍚

Arroz a Banda & Fideua

From a beachfront rental on Arenal-Bol, the harbour restaurants are a pleasant 10-15 minute walk along the promenade and around the base of the Penon. The signature dish is arroz a banda — rice cooked in a concentrated fish stock, served with alioli and the fish on the side. Fideua (a pasta version of paella cooked in the same stock) is equally popular. Both are communal dishes designed for sharing, and most restaurants require a minimum order of two portions.

🍴

Diverse Dining on the Promenade

Beyond the harbour, the Arenal-Bol promenade itself has a good selection of restaurants covering everything from Italian to Asian, plus beach bars serving simpler fare — grilled sardines, patatas bravas, and cold beer. You can eat at a different place every night for two weeks without repeating.
