A Different Kind of Beachfront

Guardamar del Segura sits at the mouth of the River Segura, where over 800 hectares of pine forest meet the Mediterranean. The pines were planted in the early 1900s by engineer Francisco Mira to stabilise sand dunes that were threatening to engulf the town. More than a century later, those forests have become Guardamar's defining feature — a green buffer between the town and the beach that gives this stretch of coast a character entirely different from the developed resorts to the north and south.

A beachfront rental in Guardamar means stepping outside into an environment that feels closer to a national park than a tourist strip. The beaches are wide and long — over 11 kilometres of sand stretching from the river mouth to the border with Torrevieja's La Mata. The dune system behind the beach is protected, and the pine forests provide shade, walking trails, and a backdrop of green that you simply do not get elsewhere on the Costa Blanca.

Guardamar itself is a proper Spanish town rather than a purpose-built resort. There is a Wednesday morning market, a castle ruin on the hilltop, a pleasant town square, and a seafront that comes alive in the evening when families stroll the promenade and children play in the parks. It has restaurants, supermarkets, and services, but it has not been reshaped around mass tourism.
